OneRepublic, NEEDTOBREATHE, and Amy Allen at Shoreline Amphitheatre - August 17, 2022

Amy Allen and her three-piece band took the stage while the sun was still shining on a breezy late summer California evening and got the early crowd off to a fun warmed up start. I'm a sucker for any song with lyrics about the 405 or the Valley, so "Now i'm driving through the valley lost" pulled me right in. The band was tight and they looked like they were having a good time, and the crowd was loving it too. And points in the humble department for Amy who neglected to mention that she's a top hit songwriter for the likes of Halsey, Selena Gomez and a fellow called Harry Styles. NEEDTOBREATHE (I'm not yelling at you, they're yelling at you) came on next and brought some crazy energy to the venue with their great big band. Lead singer Bear Rinehart is a force, with his perfect pitch and his facial contortions while sharing his feelings with us through song. Those guys were fun to listen to and fun to watch, with a big dose of meaningful lyrics and heart thrown in. No mention of the 405 or the valley in their songs -- what's the South Carolina equivalent? OneRepublic came on with video screens blazing and flashy flashy lights and some crazy high stepping energy from Ryan Tedder and band. These guys know how to put on a show, and do it well with lots of enthusiasm, and the crowd loved them. Big moments were a half hour piece in the middle of the show playing and singing covers of songs Ryan's written for other bands, so a little Beyonce, a little Adele, a little Ellie Goulding, with some comedy mixed in -- "Some of you thought you bought a ticket for OneDirection, wondering what's going on, and it's okay, it's cool". The place was packed, everybody in the 12,000 capacity venue was singing and dancing, and the open air and festive mood made this Never Ending Summer Tour feel like a great way to keep everybody's favorite season going.
