Unless you were at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles on December 20, 2019, you hadn't seen My Chemical Romance perform live before their 2022 Reunion Tour for a long, long time — in fact if you bought a ticket for their pandemic-postponed show when you were sixteen years old in 2019, you’d be well along in your college career now, but probably still just as excited to see them now as you were then. Gerard and Mikey Way and band brought their music and excitement to California’s Oakland Arena on Wednesday night and played to a packed crowd of MCR devotees who were ecstatic to be there - the kids against the front pit barricade lost their minds in tandem when the band took the stage. Kicking the show off with The Foundations of Decay, Na Na Na Na, and Give ‘Em Hell Kid, the band was relentless in its energy, and gave the years-waiting crowd exactly what they’d been waiting and hoping for. Opener Taking Back Sunday had great warmup energy and gave the crowd a rock 'n roll lineup filled with great moments, and Gucci campaign band Surfbort brought their fructifying punk to the stage with a rowdy balls-out set.
